Motorcyclist injured in collision with truck on Broadway

By Jamison Cocklin, Special to the BDN

BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center on Friday after the motorcycle he was driving collided with another vehicle on Broadway, according to police.

Bangor police Sgt. Larry Weber said Jason Wagner, 20, crashed his 2008 Kawasaki into a truck being driven by Robert Watson, 56, of Hermon. Watson was not injured, according to Weber.
The incident occurred when Wagner allegedly failed to realize that the 2008 GMC pickup truck Watson was driving was making a left turn onto Earl Drive from Broadway.
Weber said the truck was moving very slowly through the turn and the driver did not notice Wagner on the motorcycle, which hit the turning vehicle’s passenger side.
According to Lt. Robert Bilotta of the Bangor Fire Department, paramedics from Capital Ambulance Service tended to Wagner in the street where he fell off the bike after the accident.  Bilotta said Wagner’s injuries were not life-threatening.
The accident occurred in a 25 mph zone and speed was not considered a factor in the crash, according to Weber. Police are expected to reconstruct the accident in order to determine the cause.
Bilotta said the truck had only minor “dents and dings,” but the motorcycle Wagner was driving had “extensive damage.” Officials did not have estimates on the damage.
“Motorcycles don’t fare too well against larger vehicles in any crash, no matter what,” Bilotta said.
Reports on the incident indicated that traffic was largely unaffected, according to Weber.
